The initial idea, apart from the  early ideas  concerning  Disneyland , emerged during the development of_cc781905-5cde-3b3b-3b3b-1905 136bad5cf58d_Epcot . Disney isn't the first to show movie studios. The essential idea of the park consists in the reconstitution of a Hollywood more mythical than real and whose image is in everyone's mind. The park could therefore be divided into two parts: the production and the attractions.

Work began in  1986 . The opening originally scheduled for October  1988 , is postponed to May  1989 . The cost of the work is estimated at more than 500 million dollars.

The park was never owned by_cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b- 136bad5cf58d_MGM . In fact, Disney had signed a contract with MGM to use the name as well as the content of the films to make attractions: for example, attraction  The Great Movie Ride 3. Disney responded with another lawsuit against MGM which had licensed the use of its name for the  MGM Grand Hotel , the MGM Casino and  MGM Airlines . Moreover, it would have harmed Disney's reputation by building a theme park in the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas (Nevada).

On  23   October   1992 , United States Supreme Court Judge Curtis Rappe, Defendant of Ms. declared that the park  MGM Grand Adventures Theme Park  at  Las Vegas , then under construction, could use the MGM name as long as MGM Grand didn't have a 'Hollywood' theme. However, the Las Vegas park closed after summer  2000 , for lack of profitability. The area remained open for private events, then was eventually torn down in favor of building du  condotel   The Signature at MGM Grand _cc781905-5cde-3194- bb3b-136bad5cf58d_in 2006.

On the Disney side, since 2005, all references to MGM in Florida have been gradually removed. Only the biggest references remained, such as the name at the entrance and the official name of the park. Effective January 1, 2008, the park was renamed Disney's Hollywood Studios due to the termination of the contract between Disney and_cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b- 136bad5cf58d_MGM . The renaming was formalized on August 10, 2007 by Meg Crofton, president of Walt Disney World Resort 4. The Disney company also informs, in a humorous way, that with this park name we finally know the "middle name" of the Disney studios , Hollywood. This name would have been chosen to emphasize that the park evokes a mythical and timeless Hollywood.
